Florent Rosmeulen

Florent Rosmeulen, manufacturer of chocolate, cacao and gingerbread, started building a castle directly opposite his chocolate factory in 1911. As is fitting to the spirit of the Belle Epoque, he called the mansion “La Brise“, referring to the toponym “Op de Bijs” in Nerem.

The castle got occupied by the Germans during the First and Second World War. From 1944 to 1945, American soldiers moved into the castle.

After the death of Rosmeulen in 1943, the castle came into the hands of the families Duesberg-Bosson, Blyweert and Riskin.

Medio 2020, Dirk and Bie D’haese buy Rosmeulen castle, which has been left abandoned and neglected for years at that time. They restore the castle in all its original glory, of which they are rightfully proud.
